Hi Ling Er. I like your video on the use of popplet. I agree with you that popplet is a wonderful and easy tool for semantic mind mapping for the purpose of recalling and checking on students' understanding of content that was taught in class. Equal opportunity is given for students in designing their map which may varies from one individual to another. This creates an opportunity for them to share their thoughts among their peers and cross check their understanding. This also promotes social interaction and appreciation for individual creativity. In my school, students are equipped with ipads as part of their 1 to 1 learning device. Thus, popplet is widely used in class and it is a way for students to consolidate their understanding, save their work as a jpeg file and submit to the teacher for feedback. It is user-friendly and allows students to connect different facts and concepts that helps to form their overall understanding of the topic. It is also a great tool for students to use as a presentation tool .

Thank you for sharing your presentation. I like how you try to analyse and dissect each requirement of the question at the start. I have use softwares such as livepolls to gather responses from my students. Other than MCQ responses, there are also websites such as pigeonhole live that allows gathering of answers to open text questions and real time display of replies. You can also choose to include the questions with a countdown timer if they were meant to be assessment for the students. May I suggst to include a slide with your title so that viewers can have an idea of what you will be talking about at the beginning.?

Google classroom definitely has its Pedagogical Affordances. I have experienced the various pedagogical approaches in learning using Google Classroom. I agree with your presentation on the Social Affordances of Google Classroom especially on the safety aspect where the log in is controlled by a pass code that the teacher issues. Anytime, anywhere learning is indeed a real affordance of the tool. Allowing different assignments to be assigned to different level of learners is very useful but challenging to the teacher. Question: How do you track 40 students in a class with a variety of assessment?

Thank you Candy for your comment. Indeed, it is a challenge to manage 40 students in a regular classroom, let alone Google classroom! haha! That being said, there are some settings that might allow the teacher to manage the students and their assignments a bit better. E.g linking student submissions to your google calendar and allowing you to receive notifications of late assignments. There is also a grading tool to allow teachers to manage the submission rate of assignments. To make it a bit more easier on teacher, it will also be better to have a co-teacher included in this classroom to manage particular type of assignments.

HI Candy, thanks for your sharing. I like how you have leveraged on Gagne's 9 events to explain the affordances from a pedagogical perspectives. I am not too clear on the social perspective though. You mentioned the use of black board to support student discussion. If we do not have a LMS, what othe options are available or can be possibly integrated with iSpring? The topic you have here is really interesting, (I laughed at Zony TV and Sumsang). so I was wondering is there was a more "social" platform which can be integrated with iSpring.

Hi Abi. When you shared the use of Padlet, it reminds me of the time when i used to use it with my class a few years back. It really provides the affordance for the teacher and students to collaborate and discussed on the topic being learnt. One good thing about this app is that we can get students to cross check the responses made by other students by agreeing or disagreeing to the comments made by their peers in their post. At the same time, the voting function helps the teachers to get a sense of their belief system. The app also allows multimodal inserts of information which may include video or pictures which can support students' understanding. Overall, it is a great tool that is easy to use and allows social interaction in a safe environment where replies can be anonymous.

Thanks for sharing about Google Slides! The presentation is very clear. From your demonstration we can see how easy it is to use the interface and how teachers can provide feedback through posting comments. I like the idea of using Google slides to make e-book. I personally think it is not that feasible for teachers to provide real time feedback as students are doing the work. Nonetheless, it is still a great collaborative tool for group members to work on especially for a project.

Hi Choon Guan, thank you very much for sharing your insightful knowledge on the affordances of AR and VR. I have always been very intrigued by the use of AR/ VR for teaching. I have taught cells before to secondary students and I find that visualisation is one of the key affordances necessary for students to understand the topic of cells. Also, as you mentioned in the video, students are able to interact with the cell organelles in a 3D immersive environment. I can see that this can be a total game changer in learning for the students.

Hi Kasni. Thank you for sharing how you use Epicollect5 in your punggol way project with your students. This is indeed a great tool to get students to practice using their devices to locate their position, I believe there's lots of learning on their orientation skills, map-reading skills as well. I'm sure they also have to look out for important landmarks in the area to help them in the questions or locating their positions. Epicollect5 allow multiple ways of setting in creating questions or collection of data. The affordances is just great. And once you pair it with collaboration or interactions between the different groups, that would be awesome. I'm sure you would have spent some time getting the pupils to get used to the functions of the system for them to maximise the potential of Epicollect5. Once again, thank you for your sharing. Great Job!

Hi Chuan, Actually, the use of the app by the students is easy. Once the teacher decides on what the students are to find out, the students would search for the information that they require. It allows for various responses which is later discussed and verified when the teacher inform them of the link to view all the data collected by everyone. The best part is that the data can be collected offline and uploaded when there is connection. Thus, it leaves out the neccessity of needing a network to record the information as long as they have the app installed in their devices. It should work well.

Thank you Kasni for your sharing on epicollect5, and showing how it might be used for learning journeys. I feel that the tool is strong in social affordances as I promote sharing of information in various forms (e.g. written observation, photos on locations etc). There is a lot of potential for collaborative learning to take place. I think this is especially good if the learning journey spans across a large area, then we have send different groups to different locations to gather information. With all the data collected, students can see the bigger picture, negotiate meaning of their observation, and co-construct possibilities for future project works. Thanks again for sharing.

Hi Kasni, thank you for sharing your video on Epicollect5. I thought it was a great way how you used it in the project demonstrated in the video. I imagined if I were a student I would be very excited to submit my answers because I'd feel like I'm playing a game. I love that it is not just limited to traditional text answers, but also allows for more interactive media like video, audio and images to be submitted. The collaboration element is also very fun as students get to share different observations and discoveries which they might have missed themselves.

Hi Esther. Thats' the beauty of this app as a cognitive tool. At the end of the students' finding and data collection, they can create their own presentation resources based on their data collected and make a video of it. It is pretty simple and effective to showcase the consolidation of their learning which can be discussed cognitive for developmental feedback. You should try it. 2/10/2019 09:58:49 pm

Hi Nazrah, Thank you for sharing the wonderful video on using google sheet. I especially like the one that you shared on tabling of length of spring as more weight is added. I agree with you on how difficult it is for students to interpret graph questions. The spreadsheet and graph serve as a bridge between data collection and presentation. Or cognitively, how numbers can be represented in a graphical form that shows trend or pattern. At the same time, they also learn how to present and interpret data. It is also a safe tool for many pupils to use, especially in primary schools. The user can set / lock or unlock the functions of the spreadsheet documents. I agree that students need to practice to get used to using it. Especially in knowing the many functions within excel itself. Thank you for your sharing. Great Job!

HI Helen, what a great idea! I never really thought of Instagram Stories as a pedagogical tool. I really liked how you have chosen Gagne's nine events to help unpack the pedagogical affordances and support it with well thought examples. There are afew things which I thought about. Firstly, the story is available for 24 hours, and after which, it is searchable by hashtag. Does that mean that the hashtag must be well thought out too, otherwise, the users might end up with a string of other posts which you do not want to see? What is your advice for this? MY second question is from the user's perspective and is related to the first. How can the learning resources be curated by users? If my teachers used Instagram stories, say many of them, them, is there a way to organize these stories so that the user can create a structured way to access them or review them when needed. This aspect may affect what types of content which can be put up . (By type, I mean content which is built on prior knowledge, previous experiences, or pre-requisite skills)

Hi Helen, I really liked the idea of using IG stories as a teaching tool. I think it is very engaging and definitely attracts the attention of the learner from the start. The idea of bite-sized content is interesting because personally I feel that it is easier to absorb and process content that isn't too much at once. I think a fairly new feature of instagram allows you to repost instagram stories that you are tagged in, This means perhaps that when students upload a story in response to a question and tag the teacher's account, the teacher can repost it on his/her story, and everyone who follows the account is able to view the story. This could be another way of collaboration and knowledge construction.

Hi Rachel, thank you for your comment! Yes, I thought that the MCQ quiz function is very handy as well and it being an online quiz, I think students feel less pressured and stressed as compared to if they were to take a quiz worksheet in the classroom. Also saves the teacher a lot of hassle from marking papers! And knowing the % of students that get certain questions correct and wrong is useful and efficient in informing the teacher what he/she has to revise/teach in future lessons.

Hi Nadia, thank you for your feedback! Yes, the tool provides the questions and they are pitched at appropriate levels. Although the tool is produced in America, there is no difference in the standard of the questions. Even if there is a difference in our syllabus, the tool can be used for anybody who has learnt Kinematics. In a way, I can say that this tool is generalisable as it can be used in different countries with different cultural contexts.

Thanks for sharing about Padlet Rachel! The social affordance that it is able to offer like reviewing the privacy, creating a safe environment, having the appropriate tools to facilitate communication makes it a very popular choice for educators when it comes to collaborative work among peers. I agree that it is very easy to create and easy for the students to use. It is visually appealing and users can have fun customising their padlet. I like the fact that we are able to add so many different multimedia representations to it like video, drawing, text, take photo, include maps. This technical affordance makes it a very powerful tool to achieve many learning objectives. Perhaps, you can share with us how you have used Padlet in your own teaching and if there are any challenges that you face in using this tool?

Hi Rachel, Many thanks for sharing. I've never really used Padlet before and its interesting to get to know it. It is definitely a collaborative platforms to share and obtain information, and encourage team work and learning. Perhaps you could also point out the limitations of Padlet in your video. From my understanding of similar websites such as Padlet, it is difficult to filter through the information, some may be important while some may be "vandalism". Both the moderator (who I supposed will be the teacher) and the students looking for information may face this problem, although labelling and tagging may help.
